Thoughts and ideas for a vehicle that adheres to the following "requirements" (it's for Janine, my ex).

Must have pop-up headlights
Must be less than

 

Early MR2 or MX-5 would be my suggestion. I think early mx-5's had pop-ups.

Mitsibushi Starion??

But I would go MX5.

 

Early MX5 for that money the best mix of driver enjoyment with reliability and lowish running costs.
Not the 944 - it may cost you more than the purchase price to get it through it's MOT every year.
