Isn't that the version Chrisr111 recently bought?
Chrisr111 bought the Mugen version of the Japanese Spec FD2, of which only 300 units were made. I believe the article is referring to a Mugen version of the Swindon made FN2 civic. To be honest if Honda brought in the Japanese FD2 Type R civic officially I think it would do very very well. It is a very good car on track and far better than the UK made FN2.

Yep I don't get it either.

All they would have to do is get some UK / Euro spec Billies () on the FD2 and it would sell. Can't understand the logic of the FN2.

Isn't the reason they're reluctant something to do with having to homologate LHD ones across EU? Or did I make that up?

If the FN2 were badged VTi or something and not quite so blinged-up, it would make perfect sense below the FD2.

Apparently the FN2 can be made quite reasonably decent too, but of course I cannot understand the point of such a huge barge without any windows.

I never understood why Honda UK didn't bring in the DC5 either. Honda UK hesitated on the DC2 and then eventually brought it in, it sold well and helped develop a very good reputation for Honda with a younger customer. The DC5 was an excellent car, but they were apparently worried it would take sales for the Swindon made EP3 at the time, I just don't get it either..........Surely it cannot be emissions as they are all running nearly the same spec K20A engine.

Its like it has finally kicked than a GPW S2000 may sell in the UK

Partially, the DC2 was too close to the EP3. Since thet discontinued the Prelude at the same time, it might have made sense.

They tried selling the DC5 as an Acura (crazy!) in the States and that failed. So that probably blows my LHD theory out of the water.

Think it's just a case of the Japs keeping the good stuff to themselves unfortunately.

They always did it with the Impreza. They got the STi and other models from the offing, and when the UK finally did get it in 2001/2002, they made their one better with extra toys and gadgets

Gladly that hasn't happened with the Evo and GTR.

The DC2 was out in Japan in 1996 but the EP3 never went into production until 2001, so they were hardly close as there were 5 years apart! On the subject of Acura the UK spec DC2 Type R is the American Aura Shape as well, hence the Japan Spec has a completely different front end which in my opinion looks better.

Acura is to Honda what Lexus is to Toyota & Infinity is to Nissan and Honda have used the Acura brand in other markets as well.

MB- I thought the UK missed out on Evo's 1-5 ?
I also thought the Skyline R32 never came in officially did it?

I meant in terms of spec difference in JDM / UK versions but you are correct, with the Evo 1-5 / GTR 32 being the same issue as the Honda thing we are talking about.

Oh ok I wasn't sure as I wasn't living in the UK at the time so can't remember exactly which incarnations the UK market received. For the record I bought a brand spanking new Evo 4 in 1997, regret selling it now although I will never buy a black car again.......!

Sorry: My bad- I meant DC5! Numbers were never my strong point...

Thay've recently launched Acura in China, but thought better of Japan and Europe at the last minute. The model palette is rather er, American at present.
