HPI Check - Cheeky request!
I should hopefully be buying a new car this weekend, nothing fancy, just a Passat TDi but will need a HPI style history check done on it.
I don't suppose any traders or somebody who has a spare one would like to perform the check for me?
I could put a few £ in the next charity pot and I have a few 'S2000' vinyl stickers in etched glass I could send you (like the ones on the wind deflecter).
Please PM me if you can help out.
Cheeky I know but 'shy bairns get nowt!'
Thanks!
Nick.

Problem is, if you don't do a proper HPI yourself, you get no protection whatsoever if the HPI check doesn't reveal anything (not a rare occurence, esp if an "incidence" is recent) and it turns out to be stolen/on-finance/write-off/etc.
That's a fair point, one I didn't think of TBH.
However, I'm only spending £1800 so I just want to make sure it is not a Cat C or D ins claim.
Anybody?

The cheaper ones give less information and carry less protection.
For me, the value of a car check is the guarantee/protection it gives as well as the actual data (as the data can be wrong, and sometimes is).
The RAC one, for example, is probably a decent enough check but only covers up to £5k, whereas the proper HPI covers up to £30k.
However, in the case of the OP, it's only an £1800 car so that's not an issue, however £1800 is still £1800 so I would get your own HPI (from, say RAC or HPI) and wouldn't bother will these cheap text things as they don't tell you that much.
In short, you get what you pay for...
Really, what's £15/£20 when you're spending £1800! Just barter £20 off the asking price
