Default I'm a knob

Story goes, got a free motor to run around in over winter, 54 plate a3 TDI. Dad gave me the car (he's ill) with one shabby key

Found a cheapy replacement flip key £5, went to get it cut. The cheap key split.

Then decided to swap the plastics over instead, shattered the chip whilst trying to extract it. Cars now immobilised

Now the £5 key is costing £165 to replace!!!

Ho ho ho, flame suit removed feel free to torch me it can do no worse than the roasting I've got off the mrs

Why didn't you warm the plastics up on the old key first - or use a soldering iron to pry the glass immobiliser chip out

Why would you swap the innards of the shabby key to the new split key?

Having got the s200o chip out before I fidnt think it would be so brittle. Genuinely gutted as it was only a cosmetic upgrade at that moment when the new haa key split.

Feel like the bit if father ted when he knocks a little dent out and Fooks the car!! Oh well, if it ain't broke don't fix it

Grrrr weekend has got worse now and need advice

Local locksmith has come out to sort a new key but in the process of re-chipping the car he's now messed up the dashboard. It now states Def & Safe once the cars switched on. Although the car now drives the speedo doesn't work and fully rotates.

I'm right in thinking it's their problem or could I get stuck with sorting it out. As its Sunday night I'm not going chase him until the morning. But need advice prior to tomorrow mornings 'chat'

I don't think the key is coded to the car properly - that's going to be the starting block.

I'd be talking to your key bloke again.

Price = the (often) low and attractive figure that allures and tempts.

Cost = the difference between price and the actual amount spent

HTH (and I know it probably doesn't )
