Default I'm not able to get on with my CTR...

After having a few RWD cars, I bought a 2004 Civic Type R - for a 'change'.

I liked the power (pretty impressive for a hot hatch!) but I have been incessantly niggled by it's lack of traction in the wet and generally irked by the whole FWD experience...

I've now decided that I really am fooling myself that the foibles of a performance FWD car fit in with the way I drive and subsequently, I'm looking for a 2003 BMW 330i.

Does anyone have anything good or bad to say on regarding the above car?

Do you really want such a motorway barge?

An M car would be sharper, but no roadster in the true sense.

If you must bite the sausage, a Z4 perhaps?

It's awful though in almost every way.

It's bumpy, uncomfortable, even the 3 litre doesn't feel particularly fast and it seems to steer wherever the hell it wants.

I had a feeling when I drove it, that inside there was a good car struggling to get out, but it just didn't make it.

I thought it was useless around town (ride is very crashy). Useless n Jock country roads (unless they had been resurfaced the week before)

And noisy and uncomfortable on the motorway.

I'll give that the S suffers from all of the above ... just not terminally.

M54 straight-six drinks oil; 600 miles per litre is not uncommon.

330i is OK but like the other comments, it won't feel that special on a back road. If you want a day to day 330, have the 330d Euro IV model (with 204bhp and 302lbf.ft, made from 2003 onwards); if you want an exciting Beemer, go for an older, bigger model. You'd get an E34 M5 3.8 for 330i money... what a motor!

We been in the same place with the wifes CTR, but we wanted something relaxing, laidback, but still with a bit of performace and handling.

Test drove the 54 plate, 330C M Sport (auto). I really liked it. Felt like a big lazy cruiser, great for the days when you just can't be arsed with the Invidia, CAI, decat and all the other bullshit

It certainly didn't "feel" fast tho. We also drove the new CTR, but having had 2 already decided it was time to trying something different.

More details on what we've replaced the CTR with in a few days

BAAAARGE!

For a bloke coming from an S2k, VX220 and a CTR, I cannot think of a less suitable car!

Oh - yes I can:

If you want something that rides far better than a CTR, is more refined & relaxing, yet actually handles well, you could do a lot worse (ie - practically every other FWD car) than a 4WS Prelude.

RX-8s have also fallen out of bed & are nearly junk money. Less  than the Krautwagens to drive.

Thanks for the replies guys!

I am a bit worried about the apparent 'numbness' of the BM - may have to give a few a drive.

I had considered the RX8 Nick, Cheers - May have a look at those today!
