Default Indicator stalks.

As you may know i have a new car from the land of dame edna.

this car has the indicator stalk on the right side of the steering wheel.

the s2000 and my scoob are on the left.

to me the right side is where the stalk should be on all cars.

how can you indicate while changing gear and your right arm resting on the window sill.

and i am getting pissed off with cleaning the windows instead of indicating.how come i never indicate instead of wiping the windows.

of wenvoe.

I have often wondered this and the answer has to be simple.

The influx of cars here were all European where they drive on the wrong side of the road.

Why is it the wrong side of the road?

Because 8/10 people are right handed, therefore you want the gearstick for the left side/hand as the steering is more important and should be done with the right hand when it can't be done with both.

Since eurotrash drive on the wrong side, they put the indicator stalk to accomodate the principle you mentioned - indicating whilst chaning gear.

Because they were cheap, they didn't bother to change for RHD cars.

Now, because the majority of drivers are rubbish, the left hand indicator remains because people did/would complain - Honda did indeed used to have the indicator stalk on the right side for UK cars.

This is ironic as most of the dimwits don't use the indicators anyway.

for me, the s2000 has it the right way around. although thats more a preference thing than anything else since i've been driving cars with that layout for years.

What side is the stalk on a JDM?

I remember in the 80's and early 90's when most Jap cars sold in the UK had the stalk on the RH side.

My Merc only has one stalk on the right hand side that controls both indicators (up/down) and wipers (twist) ...

Hubbie's Evo 7 has the stalk on the right hand side. Takes him a few minutes to familiarise himself with the S every time he drives it (not often!)
