Thanks chaps. Didn't realise that bankers drafts need to clear.

Spoke to A&L ( their call centre didn't seem to be too helpful here ) where I was asking for some input into how I would know the draft would be clear.
Bearing in mind - the draft would likely be presented and the keys immediately handed over.

I think I'm going to go down the route of

a/ CHAPS (same day) - the buyer may have to twiddle thumbs while we sporadically check if it has arrived.
b/ buyer bring cash and it is deposited
c/ walk between 2 banks with cash

Just reading some horror stories on autotrader etc

Now I remember why I always used to trade my motors in.

As a very regular buyer / seller, I now insist on cash, and go with them to the bank to pay it in.

Works fine. For their peace of mind, take both sets of keys with you so they know it's not going to be driven off by one of your mates

Good tip.
I want the buyer to feel comfortable about this too.

Selling to a fellow member on here certainly gave me some peace of mind. he placed a deposit by bank transfer to reserve the car and then transferred the remainder when he came to collect the car. Unfortunately he had a problem with the bank (someone hacked into his account) but as we had already built a degreee of trust it wasn't a problem and he got the car / I got the money! certainly feels better dealing with someone who has been on the board for a while....
What a bloody nightmare that was too!!
