Default Inquiry into 'contaminated' fuel

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6405051.stm

Trading standards officials have launched an investigation after drivers complained that they had been sold "contaminated" fuel.
Drivers from across south-east England believe they may have been sold petrol containing ethanol, which has damaged their cars.

Their vehicles have been juddering, misfiring and had a loss of power.

But the AA said tests showed ethanol was not to blame and the cause of the problem remained unknown

Seems that Supermarket fuel at Tesco's & Morrison's is getting the blame at the moment:

Watford area is mentioned.

Thumbs down

I see Tesco, amoungst others just made it to the National news.
Seems they have been supplying contaminated fuel, across a large part of the home counties.

Hundreds of people have been suffering with rough running and complete breakdowns as the contaminated fuel is damaging the Oxygen (O2) sensors in their cars.

Saw a recent thread or two about rough running on here....

Investigations, apparently, are ongoing.

Question

The fuel supplier is a company called Greenergy apparently. Not one I'm familiar with.

http://www.greenergy.com/products/99_octane.html

Seems the dealers are running out of supplies of O2 sensors so it must be major. I wonder how much damage a failing sensor will do to the S2 lump during an enthusistic driving session?

They supply Tesco with 99RON
Other Supermarkets may also be involved, the link with Tesco is unproven so far.
Some news reports here:-

I see some worried faces already.......

A damaged sensor shouldnt cause an engine failure - in theory.

If an 02 sensor fails, giving a lean rading to the ECU, the ECU richens up to compensate.

Ive never heard of one failing high - ie really rich - that would cause the mixture to actually lean out.

Its not used when you are on full throttle anyway
