Default Leap frogging on the M4

I witnessed two drivers being COMPLETE d!ckheads on the M4 on Saturday.

It played out as follows...

Mr Golf moves into lane three to overtake a car in lane two.

A fast approaching Mr BMW in lane three closes in and proceeds to park his bumper in Golf's backside.

Golf, obviously quite annoyed by this stays in lane three - but is now following another car fairly closely so has reason to stay in lane three.

BMW waits maybe 2 or 3 seconds and undertakes Golf.

Poor, but pretty normal so far... but this is where the d1ckhead's in them emerge.

BMW pulls back into lane three. But intentionally in front of Golf and behind the car that Golf was following. The space that he pulled into most people would have trouble parallel parking into! He had absolutely no reason to do that and could have continued to undertake the car in front of Golf if he wanted to make progress.

Golf takes offense to this, so does exactly the same - undertakes BMW and pulls in directly in front.

BMW takes offense to this...

See the pattern emerging here?

This went on for a good couple of minutes / miles on a fairly busy motorway.

I was following in the beater at a slightly slower speed than they were travelling but continued watching in disgust. It was a bit like leap frogging, really.

Out of curiosity I wanted my OH who was driving to speed up so that we could see how it panned out. Decided against it because it was just an accident waiting to happen.

What total d!ckheads. Totally childish and immature behaviour by two grown adults.

Oh and one final detail - both cars were of the "de-badged" kind.

Just had to get that off my chest!

pretty standard behaviour on motorways now

I did my longest undertake ever recently

must been at least a mile and a half in the inside lane of a motorway

I eventually discovered why.......

Plod in the middle lane!!!!!!

I have on occasion undertaken cars, but only if there was an empty lane between myself and the car(s) I am undertaking. This happens alot if all the cars are bunched in lane three and lane one and two are completely empty.

But these guys were really something. The speed at which they changed lanes to undertake and then cut the other driver up was just dangerous. Worst of all, they intentionally wanted to score one over the other.

Oh I've just remembered something else. The plate of the Golf was "2929 R" - one of the downsides of having a personalised plate I guess, because I wouldn't have remembered otherwise!

Name and shame, I say.

yeah, what you describe is just silly buggers - inexcusable really

but in more general situations

I always say that if you can be undertaken without being inconvenienced

you are in the worng lane

The US have got it right. where you stay in the lane and it just moves.
Problem is here... we don't subscribe to that.. so we are stuck.

So.. what is the problem?

Well.. You can turn a 3 lane motorway into a 1 way or 2 way motorway as follows.

1/ Get a truck to overtake another truck.
See if one overtakes another in under 1 mile. They won't

So.. now the motorway is only useful to lane 3 for cars.
Get freight back on the railway system.

2/ Middle lane hoggers.
Should be shot on sight. And about 80% of drivers do it. You probably do it too. And/ Or your wife and your neighbours.
So have a word with your neighbours and their neighbours and their neighbours. ( like that Jamie Oliver bloke did with cooking... )

Driving standards and discipline are shite compared to lets say Germany.

Any middle lane hoggers normally stay well under 70, so again - everyone has to use lane 3 to get past.

If you want a good traffic solution.
If you are caught hogging lane 2 ( use them nice camera we are so keen on ) when lane 1 is empty. A 3 month ban on the car, and 3 points.

If lane 1 is empty for 400 metres ahead of you - move into it.. You are fecking everyone else up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And before I expire of heart failure .... rant over.

or...How about we retest everyone every year?
If you don't pass with 100% theory on Highway code AND good driving skills - banned for a year.

OK.. cat is now firmly among the Trafalger square inhabitants....

Stay in lane 1 people. We all belong there, UNLESS WE ARE OVERTAKING THEN WE ALL MOVE BACK IN!

Right - I'm off to enjoy my more than shite driving experience on the M4 for the rest of the week.

Not their fault but trucks are limited to 56mph and that has an impact
on flow.

Russ.

I was on the M62 yesterday when a LHD 5 series with euro plates came tear arsing up the outside lane with his indicator in an attempt to clear traffic. Obviously new to the Isle then.

Ban them from driving between a couple of key hours per day.
