I think the android auto or if you are homosexual apple carplay is the way to go
Complex car systems out of date before they hit the road are a fudge solution, just let the phone do nav and stuff, focus on the basics for the rest. Nice screen, basic nav but also a mix of core controls like the new civic has.
In 2007 BMW launched the E92 M3. It was obsolete before you saw it
.
I think EVs will prove quite reliable whereas strangles ICE or Hybrid like the honda we just bought is a much higher risk.
Also not cheap.
But big BEVs are a big risk.
A £30k EV6 could readily become a £15k EV6
Running costs on the e thread are tiny, assuming charge at home. Even an EQC will do 4p a mile and that is a 400bhp, 2.4t lard arse
I find EVs much nicer to drive for daily duties than ICE but cost is crazy I agree. Took the S2 out top down today, that is more fun
Hi! I leased a 2019 640i GranTursimo. It was comfy, hugely roomy, handled decently and quite quick with the B58. I had a tune on it, and it was pushing hp in the high 300s. I think depreciation has hit them hard. If you can get over the looks it's a very comfy and large hatchback worth looking into!
Good shout on the 6er. Not out the question that one.
The Jag is out the equation though ; plastics, switchgear and room is wanting. Ford in disguise , it can bog off.
If you don't mind poor ride quality any 3 / 5 / 7 series with a 30 or 35D is reportedly good..never owned one, I don't like servicing smokers and they don't like the round town running that I do but...
One thing that strikes me about ice Vs BEV is how good ice heaters are in comparison. I do like getting in a pre heated car though.
Get something with actual tyres if you want comfort
The 2nd hand car market seems to be in a bit of flux, esp for EVs. Seems dealers don't want them, owners want rid of them, expensive to repair and v. expensive to insure. There is also an issue with unmeasureable battery lifetime status on 2nd hand EVs. Probably worth watching if you're in the market for a new car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZysvgm2_Aw. And the Polestar isn't made in Poland, it's made in China.
Finally got round to watching this.
Exactly what Harry says, is what rings true with my thoughts. The private buyer not being privvy to know range on a depleting battery, how it's charged and climate it's used in matters. Suddenly depreciation is stratospheric and Firms have wised up to it, not just Private like me.
Also as he says, on 2 tonne plus stuff, diesel suits the car better without range anxiety.
In a nutshell , due to blithering climate worrying govts, the car makers were forced to do this project too damn early and it just isn't really ready yet as a whole. High bhp supposed to be the attraction to buy... But as I said many months ago in the e thread, the whole point of EV is to be efficient and save on power, not drain the national grid in respect of high bhp EVs, not the e of course or other city EVs. Mid sized SUV EV's dramatically chase large horsepower gain for no real reason but to sell. Bonkers and completely ignores the fact of the battery depletion argument (bigger battery is worse really and doesn't fix it), plus the monumental hike in insurance premiums, which Harry mentions.
Harry's video is right on point. It's made my mind up on EV I think.. probably will be ignoring them.
Manufacturers has supposedly said, in 3 years or so, battery tech will be better and far more effective on range. That's when govts should cap power of vehicles, and regulate public charge points on pricing. Otherwise, as we see now, it's destined to fail further. No one right now wants an EV!

If it were my money, I'd probably look at Lexus. Probably the only luxo brand where stuff actually works and keeps on working. Lots of older ones still running around, and ususally serviced properly by older owners.
Hybrid bits are well established to be reliable - the same as in billions of Priuses used by the taxi trade.
Tesla has had a head start on everyone with the tech currently in their hands, and it's better. More efficient and batteries are smarter.
But a bland car. Fix the blandness, they will go further than the others perhaps? Maybe...

My E39 530d had a Webasto unit, activated by a remote key with a chubby aerial. Separate pipette exhaust in the front wheel arch, it would draw a tiny bit of diesel to run it's small motor and sort the interior heat for you in no time.
Mine worked brilliantly. Fondly remembered that car and without doubt, one of the best cars I've ever owned. Sold with 183000 miles, no issues whatsoever.
Synthetic petrol also has a say in our future transport - ultra clean but needs to be cheaply made.
I wonder what a 9 year old Golf GTE would fetch now? I remember these being silly money, 35k back then. Looking now, 8.5k for 100k milers, 10k the others. Battery probably at 60% now ..
Golf R of the same year, 14-16k. Same equipment inside generally with a not so interesting 4 pot blower that yes, is pretty nippy. And every c#*t has one!
