If it's anything like the M5 the brakes are not good enough for track work.

Absolutely great for one off hard braking but not for stop start.

Although I am still on the same set of pads that I undertook to drive the Ring on 2 years ago - although I wasn't driving fast by any stretch.

CSL wheels really set it off, and you got the best colour.

Is it a bit soft on track? Ie set of brakes and suspension would really finish it off? I've heard of the brakes being well under par for hard work.
Apparently upgrading pads and disks is enough, using Performance Friction stuff.

but realistically, the suspension is too soft for much track work. The CSL addresses this. But I only drove that on track really so I don't know what it's like on the road. It's fast bends over crests where you really notice the suspension on the M3 wallowing, like Pflantzgarten I II and III. The CSL felt so much more planted.

Whilst I occasionally think about coilovers for the M3, track work is not what I got the car for and it's perfect on the road. And I don't think the premium for the CSL is really worthwhile or enough of an upgrade.

Surely a CSL type intake is a temptation

Had a friend with a GruppeM Intake and Exhaust on an E46 M3 sounded awesome, and very very well made

Not when they cost the same as a set of coilovers.

I can nearly write my 2 yearly report - so may as well

Running costs - nil
Problems - nil
Warranty - dont have one
Overall - bargain performance thrills

Ok I only do about 500 miles a month! However its been trouble free, Ive taxed insured and fueled it and it hasnt skipped a beat.

Im just about to chop it in, a 535d msport auto touring has my name on it - that should be an interesting change

Am very tempted to go with an M-series next, with the CSL & Z4 MCoupe on my list of possibles (CSL preferred). Very sweet m8, love the colour+CSL wheels
