Default Maybe the cops are not all bad

My FIL scraped someones car without knowing in Morrisons car park in November. He didn't have a scratch and first he knows is a call from the cops The other party's car was badly scratched and he had been caught on camera

He didn't need the stress but anyway just received a letter from the CPS 'no further action' and details of the other car/owner for insurance purposes and the attached slip:[QUOTE]No Further Action Information sheet
The letter you have received conveys our decision to take no further action in this matter. The following may be of assistance in understanding the basis for this decision.
1. In every collision there is a degree of

Nice to hear that they chased it up in this instance.

My experience with the rozzers has on the whole been good.

I got stopped the other day for being silly (massive traffic light launch ) in the Lotus. They followed me up my drive and were initially quite agressive, but I played my usual card and they were happy that they were the boss by the end, and let me off

The sympathy one.

They no doubt appreciated the owner had to get the car home quickly before it leaked, broke down, something fell off etc etc etc

Had dealings indirectly with the Police the other day and I have to admit was really impressed.

They stopped our lorry which was fully loaded with plant and checked out all the serial numbers to make sure it all belonged to us.

Had a good chat with our driver and explained that there had been a lot of thefts recently (we've been victim to a couple of them) and that they were having a real crack down and stopping lorries / van with plant or trailers.

Nice to see them being proactive.

On the flipside, the other day I turned into a junction from one 30 zone to another one, and didn't slow down much (probably down to about 25). The only braking I used was done with the gears.

The off-duty copper behind me, in his Laguna, decided that this was dangerous driving, so followed me home and had a go at me about it, saying he would "send his workmates round in their van to arrest me".

I never speed or drive recklessly in 30 limits, so this really pissed me off. Cock.

Good result in this case though.

Doesn't sound like an off duty officer to me - unless he was the one kn*b that seems to exist in each station that everyone hates working with ....

Sounds like the sort of thing a frustrated wannabe would say. A normal thing to do off duty is just report the car and let them get a summons through the post .... no grief that way. The amount of people claiming to be off duty coppers but aren't is quite alarming !

Having said all that I haven't seen your driving

You've heard about it though, no doubt. I save my spirited driving and crashing for the quiet B roads.

It was perfectly safe in this instance. It wasn't a blind junction. There was no traffic, children in the road, or parked cars in sight. I just cornered reasonably quickly.

He may have been a wannabe, or he may have been the local copper knob (see what I did there?). Actually, in either case he was definitely a knob.

EDIT: Forgot the quote button.

My Dad did this the other month. This woman was all over the road and when he eventually got along side her on the dual carriageway she was on her mobile.

So he took out his wallet and held it up (showing his work identification) and indicated for her to put the phone down.

He said the look on her face was classic - she just threw the phone on the passenger seat.

He's always doing stuff like this (not impersonating police officers but upholding the law) - he threw some chips back into someone's car when they threw them onto the pavement - the kid got curry sauce all over himself. I swear I'm going to have to go and bail him out one day!
