Default Mitsubishi evo 8 260

Thinking about selling the S2000, as I don't use it as much as I thought, and getting rid of the other car so would need something fairly user friendly.

I like the look of the EVO 8 260, so I was wondering what other peoples experience of them are.

Just wondering if I would miss the roof off action though

I took one for a test drive when they first came out and it's a decent enough fast car...felt faster than the S anyway. Bit too sterile driving experience really, kind of Sony playstation like....no real sense of occasion whilst thrashing it.

Certainly covers ground quickly and is no doubt very tunable but ultimately if you're going for the rally nutter type experience surely the full fat MR or FQ variants would be a better proposition rather than the 260 half way house.

It's the running costs that would put me off one of the quicker ones, tend to read a lot about all of them being very thirsty and expensive to service etc.

the 260 is seen very much as the cooking version of the evo viii. wouldn't recommend one unless you're going to do some serious mods to it. unless of course you're looking for something semi-sensible.

i've got the viii mr fq300 and i'd heartily recommend it or any of the MR versions.

running costs are obviously a bit higher than the S2K with servicing being the main culprit with services every 4500 miles. other than that it's a performance car with serious bhp so you have to expect to be shelling out some wonga for the pleasure of owning the bastard

I'd go along with Billy's comment.

The 260 isn't really a quick car by any means, actually will have about 180 bhp at the wheels. An S2000 will easily keep up with it.

But....

Apart from lacking 6th gear, a proper rear wing, and a couple of other bits, it's pretty much capable of 360-400 bhp with

I imagine service is always due about now-ish . There's not that many around, from what I've been told demand has dried up a little for the moment so it'll continue to be very rare for a wee while yet small world though eh?

Great cars the Evos, i had an FQ300 Evo VII, stainless and decatted pushing around 305BHP.Fantastic cars but rather clinical if you like alot of driver input skill, basically you point and push the throttle and they do the job.As said servicing is rather expensive being needed every 4,500 and they consume super unleaded at a ferociuos rate!
The MR spec engine is not the same as the 260.The 260 can be identified by the 3 mount boot spoiler and rear headrests. The 260 is a good car with excellent tuning opportunities but unfortunately tends to be looked down on as the 'lesser model', lots of jokes and banter on the MLR forum.

The engine is the same as the FQ.

The MR has different cams and turbo housing.
