Default New Alfa...

I love it! I love the current coupe version but this spider looks like just sexual - exactly how the car was meant to be enjoyed - roof down!

What are your thoughts? I have read a couple of stories about it (its not due until 2010 - and will be limited edition) and on paper it certainly has the performance to match..

But I can see that when paying

If it's anything like the Coupe, it will most likely have dynamics that fall well short of the looks.

Still, I reckon I could live with that. I think the 8C, in both guises, is absolutely lovely

I'm minded of the FIAT Dino spyder. It seems only the Brits and ities can do cars these days.

Who cares that it's overpriced crap? It's precisely the sort of thing Alfa ought to have been offering for years.

lovely design

the only thing is, like most moderns, they are about 15% too big

the pictures flatter both cars in terms of their size

It does actually look very similar now you mention it Nick!

I have always wondered why Alfa haven't offered a decent 2-seater in their range over the last decade or so... They always seem to miss the target with their cars in one way or another, which is a real shame.

I loved the GTV - but it had poor reliabilty and power. The spiders were nice but were just the GTV with the roof cut.. The new Spiders are very nice - but as Gad says - they are HUGE!

Price aside, the only thing that would put me off of this 8C is the 20" alloys - although they look nice, I cant help but think they are there to "impress" more than anything. That said, I would still snap it up if money were no object!

TBH, I never could understand why it's taken so long for them to platform-share with Maserati; lack of money I'd guess.

You're right about the 20" rims, although TBH that is also a corollary of Gad's (and my!) beef about the things being the size of trucks nowadays.

A lovely boutique or objet d'art car. Useless on the road and I'd sooner have a profane old Alfa 105 (or something) to drive.

Saw it at the Pageant of Power on Saturday and it is truly gorgeous in the err, carbon fibre... they had a good selection, and up close the build quality of all of the cars looked top notch, particularly the interiors which were very high quality in terms of finish, design, quality of materials etc... very impressed by the Mito in particular. My wife used to have an Alfa so I knew they drove well.

As above though they have left it too long, I overheard someone say, "yes but it's ONLY an Alfa Romeo"... get yourself into the paddock and see some of the ones in there that are ONLY Alfa Romeo's!!

They are getting there I think, but they still have an image and depreciation problem, even if they are now not as unreliable as anecdotal evidence suggests. They should still be making a car like the 8C in volume though and selling it at a more sensible price, 180k is a bit steep for a very pretty Alfa with a Maserati/Ferrari engine. The Maserati and Ferrari cars with the same engine are cheaper!

It could easily have been the evolutionary replacement shape for the Honda S2000. To my eyes there are some style cues that remind me of the Honda.
