The new MX5..
... is really growing on me! Reviews look fantastic, basic bolt on upgrades to the 2.0 from BBR take it to over 207bhp and I'm starting to like the looks.
Honda, hurry up and announce a new S2k before I do something stupid!

Not sure where I saw this but the designers of the Miata didn't design is as a performance car 25 years ago nor now. The target was the abandoned MG/Triumph market (neither of these were performance cars either). Just an open "fun" car. While dual clutch paddle-shifted automatics are common in high performance cars today the standard automatic transmission of the 1980s wasn't perceived as a performance option. Reminds me of Carol Shelby referring to the original Mustang as a "little, secretary's car." A stock 10-year old S2000 should continue to run rings around it but the S2000 was designed as a performance car.
There is only a tiny market for roadsters. All those introduced in the North American market have remained niche cars or failed and the Miata numbers while quantums (ten times) more than the S2000 are still tiny. Not sure what would be in it for Honda to introduce a new one other than a vanity car to compete with the other tiny niche market cars. The new Alfa is stunning but I doubt I'll ever see one on the road.

Forget Honda - the new S2000 seems to be closer to an Evora with eSHAWD as an option and won't be out before 2017.

That's what happens when you just add lightness.
I still find these little pieces of Jap Crap very interesting, in a way that a lot of bigger, faster cars don't.
BTW:
Not sure if this is IRO the S1000 or S2000

I was perusing the BBR page earlier too
With cheap cars just a few years old (an no mileage) its a cheap tuning platform.
Drive in-drive out 302bhp turbo at BBR with uprated clutch etc for £6,695 ?
Very tempting....

It does seem an unusual move on the surface; the original car was really quite expensive (Posh Sierra/Mondeo money) and this costs nothing at all in the first place.
Roadsters and those awful CC things are dying off (blame boring bastards for the dearth of true sports cars in favour of CUVs) and the Summer's shit again.
I think it's probably 'economic stimulus'.

I just had a look and some of the options are annoying. For example, you have to have parking sensors if you want leather seats. Who needs parking sensors on something that small?
I'd also prefer body coloured mirrors over "piano black", but you can't have that if you want the more powerful version.
Still, I suppose it's nice they haven't gone "full German" and are charging extra for everything!
