The Government really jar me off. Trying to forward an idea like this, when your own Ministers can't abide by those rules is daft. Remember Jack "Speedy" Straw and numerous others.

Christ on a bike. Really what is this country coming to. On top of extortionate insurance, ridiculous fuel prices (and the stealth tax therein), parking prices, camera based revenue gathering, car tax, and congestion charging we are thinking about adding this ?? (not to mention the fact that the tax payers money which was spent on GATSO's ad laser guns for the police farce would have been a complete waste).

Well I seriously hope that this doesnt amount to anything, or and I mean this quite honestly - there will be a Black/Black 02 GT for sale in the Basingstoke area. What would be the point in owning any decent car ? - why pay extortionate tax and insurance for a car you couldnt even drive ?.

Nope I think Id turn my garage into an Indoor swimming pool and spend the money I saved on parking/tax/fuel etc on taxis.

I was, but there were no S2000's around and I couldn't afford an E-Type

I have been looking into moving to Southern Spain - They don't have GATSO as far as I recall (and that's a good a reason as any), I've certainly never seen one anyway and if you do get stopped you can normally make a charitable donation

Just re-read the article posted by zero, and it seems that the pilot study isn't due to publish its results until the end of 2005. It will take an eternity after that to decide to do anything, particularly something as expensive and potentially politically difficult as order them fitted to every car on the road.

Irrespective of the effect of the driving experience, how popular is the government going to be when it tells motorists that they have to pay for one of these chips to be fitted to their cars....?

I think we can safely assume that this isn't going to happen in the short term.

Wonder how they would deal with cars that aren't intended to be driven on the road - trackdays are going to be rendered obsolete overnight unless there was some way of either turning the chip off when on the track (which, let's face it, you could just as easily do when on the road and so defeats the object....) or cars are sold for track use only which aren't fitted with a chip.

I'm looking for property in the Cedagne. It's an area in the Pyrenees, bordering Spain, just east of Andorra. Looking to open up an outdoor activity centre for UK holidaymakers (climbing, walking, canoeing, white-water rafting, skiing and painting).

No GATSOs. The police are few and far between and more interested in illegal immigrants than speeding

the Spanish police appear to be more concerned with preventing drugs coming over from North Africa than stopping speeding motorists

it's really weird they are more interested in arresting drug dealers than motorists
