Default Panther Solo

Not often one sees one of these for sale!

I recall Car magazine raving over this when tested in the '80's.

£15,540.

Wow!

Made in f@#kin'arlow New Town, you know.

Just...wow. Saw one yeeeeeears ago. Near f@#kin'arlow, of course.

Funny how those 4x4 Turbonutterbastard cars never really caught on. Unless it's a boring old Audi of course.

That car is confusing, looks like an XJ220 made love to an MR2...

Not that it's a bad thing.

It looks a lot worse from side on.

Horrible looking thing IMO.

As usual, the engineering & unusual layout were far more important than mere styling fripperies; supercar performance on simple Cosworth 4x4 oily bits and 2+2 seating before the Evora. Ford-style running costs.

If you refer to ID's Aztec/Aspid cars, the design language was contemporary and yes, those are XJ220 rotating lamp units.

The engineering in the Solo always appealed to me, but from a blunt-stick-in-the-eye perspective I always preferred the Panther 6!!!!!!

IIRC it has 2 x Vauxhall Magnum front suspension sub-frames and a twin-turbo' Caddy Eldorado 500 c.i.d. V8 at the rear, complete with auto' gearbox. Double-plus-bonkers.

Interesting bloke Bob Jankel. I met his ex-wife on a few occasions, but that's another story...

What was the argument for 4 wheels at the front? Improved grip?
