some (most?) track days do not allow 'open wheeled vehicles' hence something like a Formula Ford would not be allowed. You might want to consider this also.
Airfield days dont tend to be as strict as proper track days so you may be ok on these events.

That might explain why they're so much cheaper - less demand. I can see the sense in not letting open wheeled cars on track days - several complete amateurs hooning around a track touching wheels = carnage......
think I may have to do some research on tracks and available track time before I commit myself.....
