Sorry im a bit thick how far does a full tank of petrol take you in the s? I'm reall not sure how many gallons it holds so kind of hard to work out exact miles per gallon, is 240 to a tank good or bad? think that about how much i got from my last tank full.
The most I have managed to put into the S is just over 10 gallons (45 litres).

The best I have managed from a full tank is 235 miles, median is 220, worst is 170.

For what it is, I think it does pretty well.

However, ALL VTEC Hondas run rich, especially WOT high into the rev range to make it all safe for the simpletons who choose to put crap fuel in.

Based on this alone getting a VAFC tuned via wideband, or RR, would net you more power (few bhp, 10+ past 8krpm where the fuel is REALLY pumped int to prevent pinging) and more economy if you like to USE your car

I used to average 180 - 200 miles / tank but then my S was a toy and driven like so. IIRC Jo used to get about 240 / tank as a daily driver.

You can eke 300 miles out of a full tank in the S2000 if you avoid VTEC and you're on a steady motorway run. Not a great deal of fun though. 220-250 seemed to be about the average for me, depending on how (and on what roads) I was driving.

E.40+ is possible (I know as I've done this over a 100 mile journey, 47/48 IIRC) but this was a combination of EVERYTHING coming together and REALLY concentrating, very light traffic, no wind and so on.
Why were you doing this?

I really hope this was for some kind of experiment.

You must be fun at parties

It's a 50 litre tank, from memory.

The fuel light is very conservative and comes on where are 7-8 litres left in the tank.

Hi Mark

Yeah fifty it is. We put 48.75 litres in once on a Sunday morning in France. Didn't VTEC too much in the last few kms.

I usually get between 250 - 270 to a tank and 46 litres on fill up. I regard myself as a pacey driver and use VTEC most of the time.

So hearing people getting 190 - 220 miles confuses me cos god knows what you are doing to get that!? If you have a blower or do a lot of town driving then fine but on the move I think the S is a very accomplished car.

I was very close to running out at the Nurburgring, luckily the car conked out as I was heading out of the car park! The fines would have been huge and the track would have been closed! Next time I will take a small jerry can and hope that I can get away with a quick top up - or just don't run it too low!

Just an update as have recently got back from a week and a half driving in France.

Calculated the MPG on all the tanks that I used

worst mpg = 31.8
best mpg = 35.8

Average was usually 33/34mpg over the whole trip.
I think late 30s would be easily achievable over there if you avoided VTEC and sat on their 90kmp/h for a long time. As I say, I got 35.8 on one tank and was using VTEC from time to time.

The driving and roads are somewhat different though. You can be sitting at 50/60mph for miles on end in relatively uncongested roads which is where gains are made, you don't often get that opportunity over here for that type of driving. It's the slowing and accelerating that fooks up good MPG.

I ran the fuel tank light for about 30 miles (started to worry as no garage in sight!), however when we did find one an filled up, only 9gals went in! The fuel gauge/light really does play it TOO safe

Excellent MPG but it doesn't surprise me! I always leave the fill up light on for at least 25 miles and occassionally get 40, but that is squeeky bum seat for the last mile or so!

I really don't think people know how to drive fast & frugally but the S is one of those cars that easily does it
