Default peugeot 106 - edited

I have a 52 low mileage 106 that the kids use. It's been a good little car but has developed a potential problem. There is a feint, but new, ratchet type sound (heard more that felt) under fast, tight left hand cornering. I will be dropping it off at the garage asap but have you any ideas?

sounds expensive and I hate spending money on a non s2000 car

story conclusion

the kids car is now back to normal (for the moment - after all, they are kids!)

it was the CV joint but the whole shaft was replaced, cost:

Wheel bearing or CV joint. Had it on my old Fiat Uno when I was 17

Agree it sounds like the CV joint is on its way out...

so, is the assumption that if one is going then they both probably are therefore replace both?

this doesn't sound cheap

It depends what you call expensive.

I would take it to a trusted independent for this. It doesn't always follow that if one is on the way out the other is. It could be that the CV boot has split at some pint and it has taken in a load of muck...

They should have inner and outer, both sides I doubt they'll all be on their way out - I'd guess

IIRC the 106 gets the whole driveshaft replaced, easier job than replacing joints, not sure on cost but labour should only be an hour or so. Get the parts yourself from a factors, it'll be cheaper that way too.

You can normally get reconditioned D/S from somewhere online - maybe eurocarparts or gsf - i forget where - not very helpful sorry!

Either way 106 parts are very cheap.

and a driveshaft is very easy to fit. I've done one myself on my brothers old car years back. If I can do it, it's an easy job.
