Shipley had an interesting and entertaining 'pull' by an unmarked Volvo and I thought it would be interesting to see what else is out there.

In the last five years I've landed a FP once (in an M3) and had several near misses after being tailed in a provocative way by unmarked cars. Provocative = pulling in tothe left lane when I'm spotted approaching, popping out behind me far too close and following for a while, then dropping back and pacing. No indicator usage at all - must mean something? Unbelieveably, this always occurs on nearly empty dual carriageways at night.................So far, no contact when using the S (that I know of!).

So, given we are all out and about, can we share intelligence? What's out there: vehicle, colour, reg, any distinguishing features, one/two up and where and when spotted?

Around where I travel, Derby area and M1 J25-J28, the police like to wait on slip roads and wait for a car to go sailing past at too quick a rate. I've seen them stop no end of Audis. I have mixed feelings about this. On a motorway with light traffic and dry weather, good visibility I don't consider it dangerous for a car to be travelling along at 100mph, but on the other hand have those drivers ever checked their tyre pressures

Last weekend I saw a couple of Police Volvos operating in pairs on the roads around Elvaston, Derby, again one on the slip road with what looked like a video camera and another car further on ready to stop whoever. I think I may have blocked a 'shot' of a Lotus Elise going by as I joined the road, because I saw the Police driver lower his camera and look a bit irratated, but at least he could play his film back and admire the beauty of the S

I tried to start a thread like this a while ago - apparently all S2000 owners are law abiding and the response was abysmal - see this thread:

I see what you mean!

I'll have to think of something useful then, like mother and baby car spaces or word association!

Big Brother - now that would be a good one. Doh.

Skulking plod at exit to Verwood yesterday, a couple of days last week and a few times before.
Located a few metres down on the left just after you pull off the slip road.
Looked like an Omega estate in full police colours but set back from the road.

Also have regularly seen Plod cars stopped on the ringwood roundabout - occupant looked like he was asleep last time. Probably recovering from a busy day pointing the speed gun down at those driving under the roundabout.

A3, on a layby between M25 and Cobham junctions, south side. Seems to be there quite often, but then if you use the road you knew that

I have to confess I'm usually not very good at spotting unmarked cars, but even I couldn't miss the bright red BMW 5 series that West Midlands police operate on the M5.

It had pulled a Boxster over onto the hard shoulder and the driver was getting a talking to in the back seat of the unmarked Beamer. On close inspection, I could see the blue lights hidden behind the front grille, and there was one of those signs in the back window that light up to say "Police Stop".

This was a couple of months ago now, roundabout Junction 3 of the M5.
