Very cool, and well done

This is one of the few modern Porsches that interest me, but it does look quite large when compared to previous models, pre-997 911's included. As such, interesting to see the difference in proportions when compared to the S, especially when they are sitting side by side.

Was your old GT3 a Gen 1 or a Gen 2?

Look forward to a more in depth report after a few months.

The S is a funny car, I think it feels much bigger than it is when you're driving it, maybe because you're sitting so far back.

I took some pictures of the M3 and the S before I sold it and it looks so tiny in comparison, shows you how modern cars have just got fatter and fatter.

The size thing is a bit of an optical illusion, as the Cayman is 11.8cm wider (incl mirrors) and 3cm taller than the S2000. (It's 20cm longer).

The main difference is the bonnet height, which is so high to meet pedestrian safety regulations, and this of course, applies to all moderns.

It can be seen clearly in Win's photo - see how much car there is above the front wheel, and compare that to the S.

That is a great pic Win

I like the GT4 a lot. I would have bought red but, well Mark was paying so.. Haha.

If i had £80k i didnt have a use for then maybe eh.. I agree with the sentiment at the very least though buying without driving is ballsy. There's nothing more attractive in terms of new cars at that money that comes to mind. The V6 Exige would probably kill me

...which means that designers have to fit massive wheels, in order to them not to look bloated. That means stronger/heavier hubs, arms and subframes and I believe the increaded gyroscopic forces mean that steering is as much corrupted as it is by EPS.

Still, at least one can then fit even bigger brakes, better to control that extra sprung mass/unsprung weight. Oh, hang on...

Indeed. Legislation killed the driving experience. I was listening to Musk saying how manually driven cars will become a leisure choice, he likened them to horses.

Some might say we are halfway there with DBW, EPS and Stabiliostopmecrash systems.

He also confirmed apple have hired a shedload of automotive engineers

One big negative to Porsche ownership is you'll notice the forums you used to look at had a "What did you DO to your car today" thread and the Porsche forums will have a "What did you BUY for your car today" thread instead..

The Porsche forums are the only marque forums I don't visit for a car I own. Well, I did once and that was enough.

Puts me off owning a Porsche is that I'd be a Porsche owner and thus be associated with those idiots. That and some worse f ucker would probably key it.

Nothing will ever detract from the 996 and 997 GT3 RSs that were at Silverstone last year and spent the first two hours of the trackday polishing their car. I have never seen anything like it.
