How are you going to get the whole of your car in an oven?

The gun: £155

A compressor to attach it to: £500

Stripping the car back to shell: 100hrs @ £50/hr = £5,000

An oven big enough to take the whole car: £20000

This thread? = priceless

Raz, save face and tell us that either;

1) you in fact DO have an oven large enough to fit a car into

or

2) you didn't read further than the bold and underlined heading...

There is a way you could do this without an oven actually.

By attaching a low voltage, high ampage current, you could physically heat the chassis up that way.

Not saying it's practical or safe, but do-able!

After seen so called 'indestructable' power coat before, i'd just paint it

I will be overhauling the DC2 chassis over winter. All arms will be taken off and cleaned up before rebushing and painting. All bolts will be zinc coated. Then on to steam cleaning chasis/shell itself and painfully painting everything with Hammerite. I would recommend hammerite for painting arms and under the car over powdercoating and/or waxoil. Cheaper, more controllable and lasts longer. Powdercoating arms isn't a bad idea though but in my experience powder coating isn't all that it is made out to be. All in all this whole process outlined above just takes time and is pretty inexpensive.

POR15 is meant to be more flexible than Hammerite and other paint finishes. Worth taking a look.

Por15 is what i'd use if I wasn't going to remove the rust first.

Hammerite is pretty good stuff though, more readily availible and works lasts well.

I wasn't planning on powder coating the whole car honest, though i do like the idea !

I Hammerited the subframes and arms last year and it looks terrible, reminiscent of a well used old Landy not a sports car!

I've had my eye on a sand blaster cabinet and this powder coater for a little while but i suppose the reality is that it probably is not worth it doing. Its amazing how much stuff is rusting up on the underside, probably a sign of its low use and age. even 2 year Cusco ARBs look terrible!

On re-reading i think i need to get a life !
