Default Preferred means of payment when selling a car?

If you are selling a car privately for c£8k, what is your preferred means of payment?
Cash?
Or bank transfer?

When we sold our last car (for the same amount) I asked the buyer to do a bank transfer whilst at my house. I was able to see straight away on my phone that the money had landed in my account.

Nice & simple & saves having a wedge of cash in the house

Yup, another way is get them to do the same in the their bank. Or I also ask them to arrange a draft which we collect from their bank and then the two of us go to my bank and pay it in.

The electronic method is easiest and once you see it in your account, the keys can be handed over. Done it for motors over 30.

Cash paid into the bank with you both present, or transfer. Both sign a receipt and take a screenshot.

Or blowjobs and a reacharound if you're AJ.

These days logging on to internet banking services is the easiest way, Faster Payments will mean virtually instant settlement, most will settle within 15 to 30 mins.... 2 hours max. Whilst not always possible a simple £1 test payment to check everything lines up could give both parties some comfort.

Things have moved on since I bought my S2000 in 2004, remember sitting in sellers house dailing up on a Modem !
