Speed perception is relative. I don't think I drive fast. Everyone else thinks I do.

If you were standing at the side of the road as I drove past you would think it was quick. The you have to take into account the speed of the observer as they travel through the universe. The earth rotates around the sun at approximately 66,000mph.
The Solar system rotates around the galaxy at approximately 828,000mph and the galaxy moves through the universe at approx 1.4 Million mph. SO relatively speaking I don't drive fast!

I must have been on mogadon at the time.

Maybe it really was because I was taking it easy that my perception of other road users changed?

Do most people here drive fast the majority of the time? I do although having a little one is changing that. My god it's boring though.
I don't think there's much doubt that the car you are driving changes your perceptions

If I'm driving something slow, I'm aware of being passed by all sorts of tdi crap, assorted repwagons and the like

It's a little like being surrounded by annoying insects

In something fast though, they are just obstacles that never pass you - more like a video game

I'm sure the drivers of these ordinary cars believe they are travelling quite quickly, and often appear obstructive because they don't believe you could make quicker progress

Hence the snail like progress in the outside lane, to overtake something half a mile distant

You touch on a good point there Gad.

What I didn't say was that I was in a Jag, not the S. Maybe the lazy V6 under the bonnet and cruise control helped to calm me a bit more

I think what you drive an have quite a big impact as to how you drive, and your exceptions when driving. Also if your borrowing the car, that can also have an impact

Lucky you - yesterday some tw*t in a white van came around ab lind bend on my side of the road and smacked into the scooby (about #1k's worth of damage) and denied he was in the wrong, and then today an articulated lorry drove into my trailer - his excuse was he didn't realise I had a trailer. Oh. That's ok then.

That's some bad luck you're having. I wouldn't bother doing the lottery this weekend!

I hope white man's insurance coughs up.

thanks guys, feeling a bit shell shocked and down about it all (unsurprisingly!)

WVM is legit; have spoken to his boss and it'll be going through on the company insurance. However his first words were to accuse me of speeding and driving on the wrong side of the road (on a blind right hand bend!) When in fact I came aroudn the right hand bend to find a white van heading towards me occupying half of my lane

So he is insured (seems above board, will be getting the reference numbers etc. on Monday) but without witnesses presumably it'll go knock-for-knock unless he does the decent thing and tells the truth. Which means my excess and NCB go down the pan

Artic bloke didn't even apologise, he couldn't understand what the fuss was about, nobody stopped - they were just honking us and driving up the kerb to get around us. I couldn't move as I had an artic hooked onto the trailer.

I'm just so relieved he actually stopped because otherwise the 7 would have been flat as a pancake and I've just spent quite a lot of money on it!

Chris has already banned me from driving for the rest of the w/e - to make it wosre the Subaru is undriveable (legally can't drive it without a drivers wing mirror) so that only leaves his cars, and I was driving one of them today when the lorry hit us!

That's a big bummer, it can only get better.
Didn't realise that a missing mirror made it illegal to drive a car.

Neither did I. You don't need them on a motorbike.
