Default Printed Insurance Certificates

I've just re-insured the beater and my insurance documents have all arrived by email. Saves the insurers the printing costs I guess.

I asked them if I was stopped whether it would be acceptable to show the electronic version to the police on my tablet/phone and they didnt seem to know.

Anyone got any thoughts on this. any of our boys in blue who know ?

I can't answer your question, but I got mine sent to me by email and printed the certificate, so I'm hoping it's ok.

I'm thinking that its all available to the police electronically now so they may not even need to see it.

Very rarely would an officer ask to see your documents. They alredy know your car is insured throug the PNC.
But having the electronic version would be useful to prove your insurance company and reference number.

Also in the event you have to swap details with another driver then it makes it a lot easier.

I have my documents stored up on the internet so I too could get to them from my phone or Surface if required.

Yeah I've had an officer check my car was covered from the reg plate, I've never had a producer, in fact I've never even been asked to produce my license the two times I've been stopped.

Now the post office? If you ever want to tax it physically you will need a printed copy. Not even showing them the email, and opening the PDF on my massive Galaxy Note would appease them, they wanted it printed.

I went with QuoteMeHappy this year and not a single piece of paper changed hands. I can pull up the certificate on my phone and whilst I'd like to think Plod would accept this, they're so thick I'd rather not chance it and so carry a printed copy in the car.

You'd be surprised. Plod typically don't even bother looking at a document as fakes are so common. Especially among certain demographics trying to pass their cars off as hire cars.

If your car isn't on the database and they can't get insurance confirmed by the insurer they won't care what paper you wave in their face.

Like I said though taxing in the post office is archaic. They don't need an mot paper, even though you're given one. But insurance? They will not take anything other than printed.

I'm going to print my next one on a synthetic polymer just to prove a point.

And no not a serial offender. Only stopped by the law twice. One for enjoying an empty road at 2am and the other for a rear light being out. Both times I've got to say they've been very reasonable with me. The one for the light actually seemed embarrassed to stop me.

I agree re the PO. I took my cert which expired in 2 weeks (flogging a car) and they refused. I had to take the new cert which wasn't even valid yet.

f@#king idiots
