Default Question - Driving without MOT or VED?

The S is due in for a pre-booked MOT tomorrow.

I know I can legally drive to a pre-booked MOT test without a valid MOT certificate or VED, however can I drive to the MOT station the night before and leave my car there legally?

The car would be parked on private property once there.

Cheers, Chris

firstly, I'm not aware of any discretion allowing you to drive without VED

as for the MOT - yes you can drive to a pre-arranged appointment, but I would suggest doing it the night before might put you at risk of a harsh interpretation if you were stopped

an email from the garage saying "drop it off on Monday night" would probably be a wise move

I *think* (I haven't googled to verify) that as you must have an MOT to obtain your VED then the same dispensation applies.

Agree with the rest, and good arse covering with the email.

*I am not responsible of you get prosecuted for this - please check first!

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station without tax:

That's just what I did a couple of weeks ago. 2 weeks out of tax and 5 days past MOT. Did it twice too as it failed on the emissions the first time (decat).

I'm such a rebel.

Yeah.

All sorted!

Cheers for the replies. Managed to get email confirmation from the Garage before it closed. Good job I did too!

Garage happens to be on the base where I work, low and behold, Devon and Cornwall Police were doing ANPR checks inside the main gate!

Fair play to the Police, they were willing to take my word for the MOT as it was 'such a nice car' as one of them put it! Still showed them the email anyway though.

Nothing else to worry about now (well, as long as it passes!).
