Default Rally Drivers ......

"A rally pair had an amazing escape in Wales after their Talbot Sunbeam was caught by a gust of wind as it went over a small jump and then rolled five times."

How strong was the cage in it!
No deflection at all, unlike more modern rally cars.

In a way the sequence of six freeze frames published in The Telegraph was even more impressive.

In one Darren Pool's arm can clearly be seen dangling out of the car and in another his helmet is circled flying through the air having been ripped off.

A very lucky escape for the pair.

I think they were lucky in that the front and rear of the car took the brunt of the impact as opposed to the cage.

And the ground looked soft too.

I remember the Petter Solberg crash with the Hinkel stones!

They really mashed the car that day!

Talbot Sunbeams are light and tiny.

The advantage with those little cars is that when they do get blown away like a paper bag, they just seem to roll and roll and roll and being so light, they don't really squash themselves, as allegedly safe modern cars tend to.

I've seen FIAT 127s and the Ford Kas do the same; only panel damage is the main result. In fact, being perfectly egg-shaped, the Ka is brilliant at it. I'd imaging that Plod has to come along with a giant spoon to stop the damned thing rolling on forever...

Epynt is a great section of rally in the Wales Rally GB and Jo and I have marshalled it many times now. There is usually some fun and games there with a roll or crash or two.

It is, but I must be the only person out there who can't see the gust of wind, just a dodgy landing

Be interested to know how his lid came off - I've occasionally forgotten to do it up when I go out on track, I wonder if it was that or something else

no, that's two of us

Does the road stagger at the point of the crest?

Extremely lucky to get out with a few bruises
