Unhappy Satnav to limit your speed

Video Link

Link to a BBC news video about the possible / probable next generation of devices to control our speed.
A device that looks like a satnv that can either advise if you are below, just over or excessively over the speed limit.
It also has an option to physically limit the max speed of the car to the roads designated max speed.

Currently on test inside the M25, probably coming to a car near you in the future

This sort of thing has been tested before. No government could expect to remain in power if this were introduced. If it does get introduced in this country for all cars, I'm packing my bags.

See how easy it is for your GPS to lose the satellite?

That's how easy this thing would be to disable.

Fitting a roof-rack with a tin foil cover might be an idea...

yes but its a dumb device not governed by the road conditions. You could set it at 80mph in a 30 zone. Also is a fixed speed, where as the device limits the maximum speed only, not the minimum speed as well.

These devices know where you are and limit the speed based on the roads known speed limit. Slightly different.

Also before there was cruise control there was the original speed control - your foot and brain

Clearly some peoples are out of sync with what the governing bodies would like us to be doing speed wise on some roads
