Default second car insurance for a caterham

Hi,

I am thinking of getting a Caterhm as a second car. Any suggestions on how to insure it cheaply? Mileage will of course be relatively low and I will get track day insurance separately. I wrote off my S a couple of years ago so I don't expect it to be cheap!

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks!

try Caterham owners club they should be able to help, you are looking for enthusiast or hobby insurance, you have to have another car on the road for commuting and not use it for anything other than pleasure with a limmited yearly milage.

There are lots of 'specialist' kit car insurers out there that will cover a caterham or similar for not that much money.

I have mine insured by MSM insurance (google it) who charge £280 per annum for fully comp insurance on a 3000 miles per year policy.

Dont bother with all the mainstream insurers, they will charge an arm and a leg.

I've also been insured by Footman James.

Give these guys a try too

http://www.pw-f.co.uk/

They do plenty of flexible policies for track day cars, plus multi car and the like.

I insured mine with Competition Car Insurance for the limited time it was on the road.

I can't remember the exact figure but it was cheap as chips!

What sort are you looking at? Make me jealous

Thanks all,

I will get a couple of quotes

I am not sure what sort yet, probably a k series R300.

I had a deposit saved for a house but have decided to wait and have just moved into a new rented place with a garage. With cash in the bank earning about 0% I figure I may as well scratch the itch.

That, plus the article in this Evo about depreciation free motoring mentions the R300.

I am out the country at the moment but just texted the wife to be and she told me to go for it so i will start looking in earnest when I get back to the UK.

Any tips from owners on what I should look for would be warmly received.

I'd say that was a wise choice.

Very good spec without a grenade under the bonnet

I use Footman James for mine, cost was £180 for the year. Guaranteed value payout and 3k miles per year.

I think the usuals are Egger Lawson, Competition Car Insurance, and Footman James (but it's a while since I've properly insured mine).

Theyu do various options around trackdays - I seem to remember you could forfeit your windscreen cover for 4 trackdays a year with egger lawson but I might be remembering that wrong!

Make sure it's on a limited mileage policy which helps keep the costs down

I am an owner of a K Series race Caterham but its not an R300. I can probably help with generics but not specifically the R300.

Thanks all.

Even with my dubious record I was quoted £300 from Adrian Flux.

Went to see my 3rd tonight and have put a deposit down.

R300 k series with LSD. I am collecting it some time next week.

Happy days
