Shell Petrol Pump Attendents
pulled into a Shell garage today to bend over and fill the S up with some over-priced-o-max and was quickly assailed my some bloke in a Shell jacket offering to service me!

He probably thought you just looked like a jakie and wouldn't have any money on you, and therefor would pay by credit card, giving him the chance to scam you.

It occurred to me this would be fairly cost effective for Shell to actually pay for pump attendants in busy times; when I fill up at BP or Shell (which both have mini-shops in them too), I spend a fair amount of time waiting for a pump because the person is stood in a long queue. If you could queue while someone else filled up your car (as you do in NZ, which is free, and they check your oil etc. too) then the petrol station would process more people and make more money

This is proof, if any were needed,, that we now have a surplus of cheap labour in this country. I saw this in South Africa a few years back but it didn't come as much of a surprise given the levels of unemployment.
