Default Shooting yourself in the foot

car loses its fanbelt

car is recovered to main dealer

dealer promises "it will be looked at asap but have to be fitted between booked jobs"

phone call confirming no related issues and belt in stock - will I authorise repair?

yes - when will you fix it?

"hard to say - we are so busy"

"btw - your brake pads front and rear are worn low - shall we fix them?"

so busy, you had time or need to check the brake pads? and you can accommodate changing them in with my unscheduled job and all your other booked work? amazing

Speaking of shooting oneself in the foot....

In ye olde American folk lore gunslingers would only load 5 rounds into their pistols due to the fact that they had hair triggers, and didn't want to shoot themselves in the foot. The empty chamber was stuffed with a $5 note to pay for potential funeral costs. Something to remember when watching westerns and counting shots.

Can anyone tell that it's Friday and I CBA'd.

Not sure what your alloys are like Gad, but can they see the pads thickness through the wheel spokes? They might just have had a peek at them.

Sounds iffy either way.

Chris - good info there

it's bollox Mark

the car was there because of a known problem - there was no need to look at the alloys or barkes - especially the rears!

on the basis that they are just looking out for my welfare, there are a few other things they could have checked if they were really looking.....

no, it's a bloody scam that needs stamping out

and what is this crap about "your pads are getting low"

sfw? are they worn out? no. then stfu

Pads do seem to be the new thing....

Hear it all the time on the main forum.

And it certainly does piss me off.

Guess times are hard.

Same thing just happened when I took my mountain bike in to have the gears looked at.
I got a phone call saying my brake pads were low...

I won't take it back there.

They prey on people who have little knowledge on servicing/cars etc.

A tyre fitted once told my mother a tyre needed replaced when it was no where near, not IMO but by measuring the thread.

On a similar vein an elderly neighbour of mine has just been utterly robbed by a Vauxhall dealer. He has just paid to have the pads and discs replaced on his Corsa. A car which has covered 8k miles in 4 years and is rarely used. There is no way it needed them not even close. Utter scam they robbed him as he doesn't know better and prayed on his naivety.

I have told him to never send the car back there and if he needs anything I'll arrange it in future.
