What's your budget?
I missed my spec B through December
Wifey has a Shogun Pinin very short, very reliable, very inconspicous amongst the "lifestyle" 4x4's

Yeah, I might have been a bit optimistic about the economy in a Legacy.

Thinking back it was like ge2 said.

You could fit an LPG tank to it though...

I had that all researched and ready to go - wish I had kept it and done that now.

Subaru Legacy Spec-B estate.

There's your car, drive it carefully and it'll get 30ish but put the foot down and it is seriously quick.
Not true.

You'll get 20 ish generally. I've only ever seen 30 sitting on the mway at 70.

Parts aren't cheap too, but luckily it doesn't go wrong often.

Why would anyone base their car choice on a couple of cold weeks of the year?

Fair point Moggy. We are thinking about getting a dog and a boat too, so load / towing capabilities in the back of my mind, not just the current snow / ice etc.

Not sure on the Subaru, I like the idea, but the economy would be an issue for me. I dont want to go too far away from the Audi in that regard if I can help it. Motoring is only going to get more expensive so just mindful of that.

If i thought a mini cooper D would tow a 20ft boat with the labrador in the boot, i'd have one on the drive now!

Rav4 a good call, CRV too.

I know this is the equivalent of a swear word, but has anyone any experience with the X3? I nearly bought one a few years back and always happy to go back to BMW for build quality / engines after good previous experiences.

Phil, you're generally going to find that any car that can tow something > 2000kg it isn't going to be great on fuel economy.

LPG conversions are available for the Scoob at around £1.5k (as for most other cars probably) and it's worth considering this when choosing a car.

What about winter tyres for the Audi? In fact it probably makes sense to buy a set of winter alloys too.

There is a diesel version of the scooby?
Ford Kuga as it has dynamic 4x4 so better economy but grip when you want it?
No comment on the Pinin? no where near a pricey as Rav's & CRV's just as well specced IME more reliable
