La Toyota Francaise.

TBF, it's probably the fault of the company that did the hand control instal, rather than Reno itself.

Local business won't touch anything CANBUS (other than indicators, wipers) for that reason.

Louis Renault tries to explain "Juvaquatre" doesn't mean what they think:

There was an American police camera programme with a lady in a "truck" that had the same thing happen to her - what I'm really confused about is why can't you just turn the ignition off or take it out of "Drive" (assuming they were both automatics) - Diesels are obviously trickier to turn off but surely you could let it over-rev and kill itself ?

Most people don't RTFM and if you've got keyless start, they panic & sit there like lemons.

TBF, not all autos can be shifted into neutral at speed - they've twatproofed them too much.

You cannot over-rev a diseasel they are governed.

I don't think there's been a single case of unintended acceleration that's been attributed to a mechanical failure, though. Why do you think so many happen in the USA?

I had assumed that people would try to stop the car in the usual ways, so I didn't think it would be as easy as I'd suggested, but I'd like to think if that happened to me I'd be able to stop the car somehow !

It happened to me in a Daimler Double Six (auto, natch)

Throttle stuck wide open and I was lucky not to kill a lot of people

As it happened, a few people were injured

The strange thing is that it all happens very quickly and sensible things like knocking the stick into neutral don't enter your head

Switching off the ignition did but that raised the prospect of no servo or power steering

Couple that thinking with some 'wtf is happening?' thoughts and concentrating on steering and then BAM!!!!

All over in a few seconds

Had I been on a clear road there's no doubt I'd have gone for the switch off option but crowds and pressure made all the difference

why when the car ran out of petrol did he feel the need to crash it into a ditch? I would have come to a gentle stop on the hard shoulder?
