Default special tool

Anyone got one for removing these blighters:

Small ones aren't usually any problem because you can use pliers

But the bigger ones on say, rad hoses, often need something with a wider opening than the jaws of a typical pair of pliers

The problem that you then encounter with bigger pliers is there's not enough room to get the tool into the engine bay/space

Water pump pliers?

Alternatively, screw a small jubilee clip tight over the wings - not ideal, but might just slacken it enough.

again, they will work on smaller clips but it's not the purpose of the tool

and circlip pliers won't open wide enough for the hose clips I'm tackling

if they did, they woudn't fit in the space

thinking about it the other way round - how are they put on in the factory?

there WILL be a tool
