Speeding Ticket - Accuracy of Truvelo?
Morning all,
Woke to find a NIP through my door this morning
Apparently I was doing 37 in a 30 zone, thing that I'm annoyed at is I drive along this particular bit of road every week (A3024 in Southampton) and I more or less always do the same speed, I know its a 30 zone and know exactly where the Truvelo camera is.
Anyone know if these things make mistakes? the camera covers a dual carriageway and there is always other traffic around me.
I really don't want to sit back and take this one on the chin as I think the police are having one over on me this time around.
I've seen websites advertising the template letters that get you off of these things but anyone had any luck with those?
Cheers
Mike

Truvelo or "true velocity" cameras are very accurate.
Speed is calculated by strips in the road measuring time/ distance, and therefore calculating speed.
Like everything mechanical though, they can malfunction, but it is rare.
I would guess that if you are the only one who has an issue with this camera, on the specified date, and if no faults have been found with the device to date then you will struggle to put together an adequate defence.

There are always three white lines in the road to as a cross check to see which car tripped the machine in the first place.
Unlikely to be a mistake, they are dual timed and cross checked internally I believe too (no first hand experience however).

As long as the lines have been painted at the correct spacing, I remember an article/letter in autocar where the drivers was adamant that he had not been speeding, he measured the white lines used by the cameras and found the contractors had ****ed up as they were too close together, had his conviction quashed, but I bet that others done in the same place weren't contacted.
