Default Subaru Legacy Sport Tourer

Hi all,

Long time no speak and I hope you are all well

Currently have an Alfa 159sw and it has been a lovely car for the last 16 months however but situation is that I need something a little more purposeful in the pulling (towing ) department as we now have a 25ft sailing boat

For the life of me I can't go down the German route so the not so obvious choice is a Scooby. By the looks of things they are reliable but thirsty vehicles. So the plan is to get a Mk4 circa 2005, 3.0 Flat 6 and then do an LPG conversion.

Any help out there?
James

We have one of the flat 4 (non turbo) Forester estate bodied Subarus as our doggie wagon. Subaru do (or did, some years ago) a standard fit of an LPG option using the full-sized spare wheel cavity under the boot floor for the tank. Nowadays with other solutions (!) most cars no longer carry a full-sized spare. Though with the amount of punctures we pick up along our narrow country lanes, I decided against it plus I felt sure the b*stard scumvernment would sooner or later tax the sh*t out of LPG too. Whether they every did or not I dunno

I loved my 3.0R spec B tourer.
Well built, reliable and understated.
They have cocked them up since
I sold it to Moggie and I think he still has it.
Never bothered with LPG, too much agro and not that cheap anymore

Yeah, WTF is it with Subaru?

Replaced it with a 2.0D that is too small to de-skin a rice pudding & isn't particularly smooth either. Like Honda, did they accept a bung from the Germans just to make shit cars in future?

They should've stuck a snail on the H6 & made it a bit smarter...

Loved mine, great tow car

Try and get a Spec B if you can, it won't cost any more to run and they're great to drive.

MPG is dreadful but you'll forgive it.

I was almost trying to justify a need to buy one of those once!

Some cars just work...

Thanks for the replies.

Just searched for JDM GTB and as much as they might be awesome, they are now looking very dated!
It is a shame they stopped doing a turbo, do you guys know any reasons why (demand, emissions / economy, environment pressure or all of the above?)?

I think the Mk4 really is the nicest shape but wow how fugly is the newest version!!
I also like the bonnet scoop on the diesel but if I find the right 3.0 then I could always put a diesl bonnet on

Also a little confused as to the specifications and engines but I take it goes: S, RE, SE, Sport, R, SpecB but I've noticed also REn, SEn.
Then there's a 2.0 in 150, 160 & 175 bhp but the 2.5 has lower bhp and slower, it all makes for quiet difficult research

Something is telling me to speak to a good dealer or try and make sense of it via by looking at Parkers! Or just go for the 3.0

Thanks again and I'll keep you updated

Just seen the n = navigation, starting to make sense of things (Parkers is good)

The JDM 2.5 GT Boxer had the same output as the H6, but was said to handle better.

Also, an H4 is still smoother than a line shaker, so the H6 isn't absolutely necessary - you'd need to try both.

The new shape looks better in the metal than it does in the photos. It's turned into another one of these 'middle of the air' cars though. I get vertigo in the bloody things.
