dunno but it's the rationale behind me buying things that don't really depreciate and if they go pop get sold for parts or scrap!

means mpg is irrelevant too

taken me a long time to work it out but I have now!

Who on earth would buy a new M3 at ~60k on the road? No one on here. Quite a few here have bought 1-2 years old low mileage M3s for sub £40k still covered by BMW warranty (a steal ) The cost of ownership (even maintaining the BMW warranty as most M3 buyers will do) for say 3 years is maybe £5k/year ish including depreciation. I am not familiar with what Steve put into/got for his modded 335 (or what the next owner paid to buy and fix the emerging 'wear' ) but I would think it is in the same ball park. I don't think he bothered with the warranty but he had his fun Out of warranty and warranty BMWs are different markets imo.

Gad's Audi values are I think for slightly older cars?

Hmmm...might all be a moot point for a while anyhow. Wasn't something I was going to do in the very near future, but there's a strong possibility that my S needs a new clutch and gearbox, which would be a bit of a pain......

Ouch, doesn't sound good though if you DIY shouldn't set you back too much

You don't get properly fast cars on the cheap without risk. Those Audis are rocket ships and if you find a good in you might be lucky but newer ones have mahoosive tyres and ceramic brakes etc.

Even my 4yo M3 has a grands worth of rubber and similar discs and pads. It's not going to be cheap to run but the power is very addictive and you have to do it once at least, life is for living after all.

But like with all cara having the slush money in the bank is the safest bet

One more thing, make sure it has traction/stability control of some sort

No where near as glamorous as the 6 or fast Audi, but... A Passat CC would fit the original requirement list...

Failing that I know two people who are really happy with their 335i's.

You should have said sooner; the last time I saw them they were perfectly positioned for inspection/removal

Went for a poke around the 635 anyway as I had nothing to do today.
Rear leg room is non existent.
I think it's almost certainly off the list (that it shouldn't have been on anyway).
Semi-disappointed. Nice car to look at, lots of toys, cabin seemed like it would be a nice place to be and it scored quite highly on the "bang for buck" scale.
