I think this guy sees himself as some sort of working class hero.
The brand of car represents all that is ordinary working class and suburban, and the fixation with triumphal manual labour some sort of life-style substitute.
I'm sure the result will attract the finger of silent envy from the feckless of an inner city estate, but surely the more intelligent and enlightened who have a life will just quietly chuckle.
