Thumbs up Thinking of an estate car

I'm thinking of getting rid of the Jimny since Dianne has been passed her test for a while now and I need a vehicle that can carry the kayaks and other outdoor kit. I don't want to go down the route of a 4x4 as the roof line is too high and its awkward to get the kayaks on and off, So I'm considering:

1. Subaru Legacy 3.0R Spec B or
2. Alfa 159 3.2 Q4

I don't want a 3 series touring or anything totaly predicatable, I am looking for space, performance and character (not necesarily in that order) .

Are there any other cars I should be thinking of and does anyone have any experience living with the cars that I am considering?

Thanks.

Hi Lloyd

I like your train of thought, but they seem a bit footballer to me, I could however be convinced. Do you have any experience of them?

The Legacy is a nice car - haven't owned one.

I don't rate Saab estates - had an Aero for a while and it was uninspiring.

The A6 is very well built, but not as sporting as your choices.

Not remotely sporty but a late Omega estate - the 2.6 in Elite spec - is great vfm, big, safe, reasonably economical, cheap to maintain, comfortable and very well equipped.

I still have my old 2.5 beater - does everything I need from an estate for very little

I wouldn't neccesarily tie myself to a new car if I could find something that is interesting and hopefully reliable.

Passat 3.2 V6 4x4 thing is in a similar vein, although perhaps lacking in character somewhat
