Default Time for a change?

Itchy feet time again, maybe

I'm thinking neither of my cars totally fit my needs, as superb as they are.

The Lotus is the best thing ever, perfect on track, but I find it a bit tiresome driving to tracks, over long distances (noise and lack of visibility). I envy the CSL / GT3 drivers rolling up in relative comfort I've also ticked the box and had an absolute blast in it, and won't use it until May next year (track season) so maybe time to move on?

The Evo is the best road car I personally can imagine but I made a bit of an error buying an absolutely top spec (MR 340) / perfect condition car, which does draw a bit too much attention. Should have bought something I don't mind leaving places! It's not the value, it's just the fact it's perfect and I don't want to see it get vandalised! I don't like taking it to the shops / cinema, but it's fine at home, the flat, and the gym so most of the time it fits the bill. I did offer for the Doris to drive it, to pick up some srapes then I would be less precious about it

So i'm thinking first of all to move the Lotus on (any takers???) and run the Evo until early next year, then change that too.

I'm thinking a CSL and a fast runaround, or a GTR and a cheap track car which can be used as a runaround too.

Do I need to have a word wtih myself?

Yes.

Admit it, you just have ADHD where cars are concerned.

Like I can talk

Would love your Exige in my garage, couple of years off that unfortunately.

Isn't the first one in the same?

How cheap is cheap? ITR is an excellent cheap trackday car.

Aj, that's on my mind

Smasn, it's really not a good affliction I think about cars pretty mucj all the time...

Pie - actually made me lol

Moggy, yep something of the 5-8k variety, like DC2 / Clio Cup / preferably an S2000. The DC2 is a bit raw for the runaround job (had one)

CSL option would be an expensive track car, and a cheap fast runaround to go with it. The GTR type option would be one not used for track, but with a cheap combined track / runaround. Not sure when i'd use the GTR though

I do 4k per year total miles!

If you think the Evo draws attention, then the GTR will pickle your swede

Also if you buy a cheap track car how are you going to get it there? If your not comfortable with the noise in the Exige then a stripped out track car will be unbearable. So budget in a trailer and something to pull it.

You've got two lovely cars Mark, keep them and use the spare money to see someone about your condition

Just to add, i've never owned anything over 2 litres and 4 cylinders! (apart from the E46 323i but I don't include that )

So that need to change.

Other option I am thinking is how to fit a Cayman into the list. Having been in Rich Ralstons, it' certainly is fun on track and a practical day car! Might not be quick enough though...

Don't buy an S2000 for track work for several reasons. The other options you mention are better although it may be hard to find good examples.

I rember a while back having a long conversation with a guy who had an ITR as a track slag but IIRC had a 996 of some sort. His ITR was rpad worthy with a rollcage and was quick around Oulton. He was looking to enter it in one of the championships as a medium term goal.
