I do like the idea of Hammeriteing something really knobby, like a Bentley or somesuch!

All Porsches seem to be littered with engine based horror stories. I've never forget that journo who ran a 911 turbo (996?) and spent as much keeping it running as he did to buy it.

The Cayman or Boxster S being the only ones to have as they are off radar but also being reputedly fragile in their own right.

so lotus exige s it is then... right, where do i sign?

going off trend is the only way to avoid hipster inflation

I understand Porsche has engineered-out some of the more stupid design decisions of the early 986 engines.

There have been a few Toyota engine failures in supercharged versions. And you have to re-fit bits of trim. So don't expect Honda levels of perfection. Rod-throwing F20Cs notwithstanding...

Honda (White) Elephant...No-one got it at the time, either.

I've just been thumbing through Motor Klassik and the recent auction results have been below 'target' in a lot of cases. But when an E-Type 3.8 Roadster goes for €334K, I'm not surprised.

You could get a lot of new cars for that.

Mind you, in Germany the Hipsters are into driving old junk like Kadetts and prices are hilarious. I'm sure you could get an Astra K (or whatever we're now at) for only a bit more through Carwah! or something.

I don't understand this desire to pay new car money for 70s crud either .... a Cavalier from 1980 is not a classic, it's not cool, it's as awful now as it was then, probably worse.

do start a thread (or revive an old one) if you get serious about a Lotus

I cannot buy this year but one would be a possible in 2018 q3-q4

I can tolerate issues if they are covered by a manufacturer's warranty or if it's the natural consequence of running a classic

but an expensive car that is out of warranty is not for me

slightly o/t I see the latest top Range Rover lists at £176K

can I hear the clatter of 16 hooves over the horizon?

I would be interested to see the figures on outright purchase vs. company / private lease. I cannot believe people are handing their own money over for stuff like this. I would not pay £176k for a Range Rover. Actually ( and as i've said elsewhere more than once ) I would not be keen handing over £18k for a Micra.

20% VAT not withstanding, modern cars are ridiculously expensive.
