Default and today's hire car is....

I always get excited when I go to collect a hire car. The feeling of the "what am I going to get this time" really is fun. The chance to try something for a day or two that you wouldnt have ever driven before...

I've had some highs..

Ford Mustang (when I ordered a mid range car in connecticut)
Hummer (when I ordered a small 4x4 in Oman)

and I've had some lows...

Todays is a Low. a Pug 207 SW. SW? Station Wagon I was reliably informed when I asked what it mean. Told it was actually an upgrade on the Golf TD style vehicle I ordered.

Inside it feels like they took a normal 207 and just placed a taller car on it. You have to reach down to the gearstick, the door panels are so hard I have bruised my elbow and there are no buttons on the steering wheel... I miss cruise control and trip computers and touch screen displays and all other stuff I have in the Nissan.

Not sure why anyone would buy one of these. It is quite fast I guess. "Sexy Small Estate That Oozes Style" Yeah right!! stupid french. Look at the damn thing!

What have you had recently then?

The worst hire car I have had was a Hyundai Getz 1.1! 0-60 in 16 seconds!

I had a shiny new CR-Z yesterday....my S was in for its seat cover replacement at Bristol Honda and they presented me with the keys for a white CR-Z with a few of the choice 'visual' upgrades...

I ended doing about 100 miles in it (don't ask...) so managed to give it a try in all 3 settings...

Normal - seemed like a regular small engined car - went as you would expect
Sport - suprisingly good fun and rapid - the battery boost is really noticeable and gives a vtec some torque...just then lacks the top end fizz...but then it is only a 1.5 or something...
Eco - Dire....dire...dire....it's great if you are going down hill, then the accelerator actually seems connected to the engine in some way, anthing flat or dare i say uphill and it seems to grind to a hault...I guess you get pretty good fuel economy when stationary....

I tried eco on the motorway and slumped from 70 to 50 pretty sharpish and it didn;t seem to want to pick up again, so had to switch back to normal...

In sport though, I was quite impressed....

not £20k impressed....and the overall fuel economy is no better than a cooper D (or a VXR8) and think i'd rather have the mini.

For a hire car though, was interesting and rare, got lots fo attention.

I think my last hire car was a 207

utter rubbish

I am genuinely at a loss as to why anyone would buy one if they had driven ANY other similarly sized car

I have a fiesta 1.4d untill November. Its not bad at all. Plenty of room, 45mpg around town, can get our child seat in the back with no problems.
