Default Tom Tom for Iphone

I know there was a thread when this was launched but I wondered if anyone had invested in it and was using it yet.

Thinking of getting a new Sat Nav - mainly because the windscreen sucker on my Road Angel keeps falling off the screen, shocking passengers and increasing my reaction times in the process.

Before anyone suggests other types of Sat Nav, I'll only consider TomTom because they use the Road Angel camera database. 99% of the time I use it as a camera detector only, just want the back up of a Sat Nav.

Other option is a TomTom Live 750 which is £240 at the moment.

id honestly pick up a tomtom one for £70 they are a specific device - so means they do the job as intended.. the iphone just wont cut it without tomtom's cradle - then you have the next issue of having to make sure you can get power to the iphone and also things like wanting to make calls etc...

the iphone just does not work as a stand alone sat nav - you need the mount , just try google maps and yuo will see the gps as you drive is very poor,

At the risk of stating the obvious, a new windscreen sucker would be the cheapest option...

My work got me the TomTom western maps for my iPhone a few weeks back (which was nice of them ). It's very easy to use and seems to use a very similar interface to that of the dedicated sat nav units. There are a few features missing which I think TomTom need to address.

You can't add your own POI's, that includes speed cameras. Although I have found a guide online of a way of adding them in, but it's a faff. You can't plan a itinerary route, which is useful for tunnel runs and driving meets.

Also the GPS can be a little flaky when you change direction quickly, so the extra iphone cradle is a must. At £100 for that plus £40+ for some maps you might as well just have brought a stand alone unit. You can use it without the cradle like I am at the minute, but you may randomly be told to turn around when it thinks your on the other side of the road heading in the wrong direction

I however like the idea of always having my TomTom in my pocket. I've found that I use it a lot more because it's always with me.

Thanks for the comments guys. Sort of confirmed what I thought.

When the app was first launched it looked expensive vs a stand alone tomtom.
But being able to cut down on gadgets is tempting.

The TomTom I want to get is £240 (for the 750, assuming the 740 has been dropped as it was sub £200 last time I looked)
I have considered a new sucker but that won't come with European maps will it?
