7 Dead. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/7248599.stm

Witnesses told the Associated Press news agency that a crowd of about 50 people had just watched two cars speed past in the race, when another car, with no lights on, veered into spectators.

"There were just bodies everywhere; it was horrible," Crystal Gaines, 27, told AP.

Her father was among the dead. "He wasn't breathing, he wasn't moving," she said. "His body was in pieces."

Victims' bodies were scattered along a 183-metre (200-yard) stretch of road, police said.

The driver of the sedan did not appear to be seriously hurt, but a passenger was among the dead, police said.

Oh dear

Remember that group B rally cars were banned because of the spectator deaths, not because they were killing drivers.

TBH, the kids that go to these things know what might happen.

Yes it's a tradgedy that these people were killed, but trying to stop it will make it worse.

Do they really go expecting cars to come off the road and kill them?

Never said they expect it, just that they know it could happen.

I'm sure that when people on here do 100mph+, they never expect a tyre blowout, but they know it could happen.

Whenever I go to watch a rally, I always plan a couple of escape routes out of harms way. Never had to use them, but may have to one day.

I don't think a blow out enters the conscious domain, unless

you have had a couple of close shaves to change your attitude a bit

just witnessing won't do it, you have to be in the middle, so to speak

I think I posted before that I was once standing next to someone on a hard shoulder when a vehicle ran into the back of us - missed me and cut him in half

Didn't change my attitude to speeding but did mean I would never stand on a hard shoulder again

I then walked away from this - with just a couple of scalp nicks from flying glass

I didn't have another mark on me, a stiff neck, anything at all

Lastly, I had the throttle stick open amongst a lot of people when I was driving a 5.3 Daimler Double Six

By luck alone, there were no really serious injuries, but it could have been like one of the scenes in that video

I'm pretty careful where I cane it now

That was close!

I know a bloke that got killed when his car broke down. he was on a long straight (A47) and a copper pulled over to help him change the wheel. copper had been driving the other direction so parked on the other side facing the wrong way with his lights on (if you follow).

Bloke speeding saw the lights and naturally drove to the left of them thinking there was a bend. The bloke I knew was standing on the inside ond got flattened by the car.

Think the copper got his ass kicked as hw probably breached the highway code
