Default Toying with the idea of an M3

As the title says I am toying with the idea of getting an E46 M3.

I've always wanted one and was looking when I got the S in 05 but they were around 27k for a decent 02 at the time. Well now you can get a decent example for around 22k including convertibles, even as low as

Someone on here must have come from or gone to an M3 and I just wanted to hear your thoughts on comparisons, servicing (ouch) and issues (aware of Vanos issue but believe this was an E36 thing?)

I fancied the idea last summer thinking 4 seats would be useful with the kids.....but (and maybe it was coincidence) we saw quite a few (I think it was 9) broken down during the year and went off the idea.

I'm glad I did - they have an image which isn't very nice.

Excellent performance though.

ps buy an E39 M5 - it's faster, more versatile and more exclusive

and attracts none of the bile that the M3 seems to attract
Just attracts a more egotistical owner!
