Default Tracker

I have a Tracker installed on the Scoob. I paid for it to be fitted, and I should have heard from the Tracker company about paying the subs.

I never did hear, so I phoned them up after about a month, and was told they couldn't find me on the system, or my car.

Managed to get through to customer services who asked me to fax the installation documents.

They have confirmed receipt of the fax and assure me they will be in touch to sort out the subs.

That was about 2-3 weeks ago and still nothing.

Tracker has now been installed for about 6-7 weeks, and although I've paid the installation I haven't paid any subs.

Tracker assure me that if the car is stolen they can locate it using the device, as it is active when it is installed. They just use the serial number of the Tracker unit which is on the installation sheet.

However, I assume this means they aren't "actively" monitoring the car; i.e. if it moves without the ignition key (unlikely but possible - more likely they'll nick the keys and take it) they won't call me.

So my questions are

1) why pay subs, if they can track it anyway
2) i've tried to pay the subs twice (installer and I both faxed them) and no luck - what next !!!!!!

Does the tracker give you a discount on your insurance?
Everytime I got a quote with the tracker selected it was the same as without.

Tracker admin is abslutely shite.

They still haven't sent me a list form me to fill in regarding emergency phone numbers-nor my certificate

Lots of BM owners have been complaining on M5 forum.

Oh check this-if your car moves they phone you up and say something like "is this Mr x?" "We are just telephoning you to notify you that your car has moved-has this been done with your authorisation?"

No authorisation code, post code check/other security heck asked.

So, if a thief robs your car keys and your mobile then Tracker is rendered useless.

Jo, your experiences with Tracker mirror mine.

I have never dealt with such an unhelpful, unresponsive, money grabbing* bunch of idiots in my life. It really doesn't give you much faith in the system which is supposedly protecting your car when their customer service is so dire.

*When I bought the NSX it had a tracker fitted and was 2 months into the previous owners annual subscription. I contacted them to arrange a transfer of this subscription to my name/address (fully expecing to pay an admin. fee for this service). After numerous phone calls / periods on hold / being cut off repeatedly / 5-6 reneged-on promises to call me back (this really can't be such an unusual request can it??????) they finally informed it it was not possible to transfer an existing subscription to a new name/address, and I would have to pay for a new 1, 3 or 5 year subscription at the full going cost.

Ba$tards!

I wouldn't piss on those feckers if they were on fire.

I'll try and dig out a thread of mine from a year or so ago when I had a serious ruck with them.

I ended up buying a competitors product after reading so much bad publicity about their customer service. There were a few people on Pistonheads that did the same so it's got to be costing them.

Tracker employ a totally useless bunch of idiots that haven't got a clue what's going on!

Took 3 months for them to send a Cert through for the insurance company.

Avoid at all costs if possible

My 911 came with a tracker fitted. I insured it on the basis that one was fitted so I had to take out a subscription of my own. It was pretty straightforward and they dealt with it efficiently enough.

I've not had cause to use the service (and fingers crossed I don't have to!), nor has there been any instance when the car has moved in circumstances when they should have called me, so I can't comment on that side of things.

In light of what has been said here though, I think I'll check whether I get any meaningful insurance discount for having it on renewal. If I don't, I won't bother with next year's Tracker renewal.
