Default Tuscan (O/T)

I am a very content owner of my S2K. Although, I must confess that i have been looking at the TVR Tuscan lately, with a great deal of interest. The obvious plus points on the car are the looks and the performance (wow!), but TVR arent exactly top notch for reliability and build quality. Does anyone know of the the Tuscans build, as it is said to be mucho improved over previous TVR's. I know its never gonna match the trusty S on quality, but I am curious.
Just out of interest, the insurance for me at 25 is actually cheaper on the tuscan by

Pistonheads is the place for all things TVR (http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/) This forum has a specific Tuscan section.

Firstly, a TVR is nothing like a Honda in terms of reliability. There are quite a number of cases where the speed 6 engine in the Tuscan has failed at < 4000 miles, or failed on more that one occasion. Build quality of the newer models is much better but you need patience, deep pockets and the right attitude to own a TVR.

The Rover V8 cars (Chimeara and Griffith) are much more reliable but still have lots of potential niggles though.

Check out Pistonheads for the info you need....some of the owner pages have running reports...very scary...

Do it if you have deep pockets and are not far from a TVR Garage

The build quality of the Tuscan is still patchy to say the least (and I hear that the Tamora has similar problems)

I was lucky enough to have been a passenger in a brand new silver Tuscan recently. Looks and performance were absolutely stunning. TVRs are still the only cars I have been in which make me regress to giggling like a 12 year old school boy. Also, the fit and finish have improved over some of the earlier models such as the Griffith.

However, the air conditioning had already packed in, the boot seals become unattached and whilst crawling along in the usual M25 rush hour jams, the car decided to overheat and steam started coming out from the bonnet! All from a car that is still not yet one year old.

I would say that the ownership experience would be a lot more 'intense' than the Stook's (even with all of our own particular idiosyncracies) and that the looks and performance of the TVR come at price. If you are prepared to put up with them (and put up the cash) then it would be second to none!!

Personally I would find it hard to get over the embarrassment and sheer inconvenience of a breakdown.
Furthermore, even when the car was running fine there would be that little pang of worry that it was going to clap out any minute.
Maybe as a second or third car it would be OK.
