The 'felt slow' comment is bizarre.
But it wasn't as quick as it seemed.
At the time my mates mildy tweaked Supra would have quite easily beaten it. And that was a car that felt very slow, and wasn't.
My Dad had a couple - 4.0 HC Chimera and a 4.0 Griff.
Yeah, the bonnet, especially on the chimera, was a bit 'flexible'.
However, both cars gave him no trouble, sounded nice and went well.
Felt plenty quick enough, both of them, but you could feel the extra higher RPM pull of the Chimera.

a lot of older cars will disappoint if you've grown accustomed/only been used to moderns
The Chimera is getting on a bit now and will feel like it is... dated!Try a spin in a Sagaris, thats supposed to be the best (and last) car TVR made and I can vouch for the fact that its extremely quick when my mate demonstrated this to me! The claimed 0-60 is something around 3.9 secs and that is entirely believable (in the dry!!)

Wasn't talking Porsche.
)and if you think those are early 90s cars there was certainly not a lot around which would go as well, especially for the money.
would
a Sagaris one day
I once read an interview in Car magazine with the late Peter Wheeler. He was describing how the front end styling on one of the cars had been 'decided' when one of his dogs (a Labrador IIRC) took a bite out of a styling mock-up. The design was signed-off with the canine-tweak in place.
Quirkily British or amateur? I always considered TVR to be the latter after reading the interview. Consequently I've never had the desire to own or drive a TVR.

If that's to me, I didn't say it "felt" slow. It didn't "feel" it by any means.

The even torque delivery does make them seem a bit effortless and I'd say the same about most Porsches.
I personally prefer the S2000's siller engine, even if it IS relatively slow!
But the TVR is the only car I've driven that I'd say is really fast, due to the light weight. The acceleration starts immediately, whereas barges have inertia to overcome.
It's no superbike, but it's closer.
What was the 5.0 putting out? Probably not a lot more than the S2000 at max RPM, so I suppose by modern standards, it's a bit tame. Weighed significantly less though! But one has to bear in mind the timeframe; the Boxster was a totally gutless 2.5 originally!
