I have a TVR Chimaera, I have owned it for 7 years, I adore the car and it has only broken down once in all that time and even that was because his fuel pump broke. I have cherished him and he has responded by being the most amazing drive. I feel a bit guilty now that having the S2k is so much fun but they just dont compare really. I have mates that own T350's, Cerbie's, Saggies , Tussies et all, they are all individual and thus all need looking after in different ways. I must admit I get fed up peope assuming that having a TVR means having an unreliable car.

Well we went to look at the T350, i liked it more than the workmate did though! I think he now has his mind set towards the cerbera as it was always his dream car. He's off to look at a late, low mileage one tonight. Which is probably something he shouldn't do on his own as he's the kind of guy who needs someone with him to stop him making rash decisions! I'll expect when i see him tomorrow he'll have bought it, good or not!

If he applies all the usual logic of buying a second hand car then he shouldn't go that far wrong.

Couple of points though......
The later Cerbs had the SP6 engine, rather than the V8, so unless fiddled with won't sound as good
Is he going to a dealer or private? Dealers have to give out warrantees!
If there are any electical gremlins on the Cerb - walk, they are renound for them
Check the diff - cluncks, whines, grabby drive - they go quite a lot on the Cerbs
If it's had full service, recent clutch and engine rebuild, looks good and doesn't leak then it could be a good buy

I have never heard a car being referred to as "him"

TVR is truly the only car you buy broken and spend years fixing .

I've paxed in a few cerbs, lovely but totally shite round a track particularly in the wet. I'd buy a T350

I know a number of TVR owners and find that the ones who have reliable cars are the ones who use them regularly and have them serviced by a decent TVR independant.

They do have more niggles than most but as has already been said, most can be sorted permanently once identified.

as for the Cerbie in particular make sure he goes for the V8...without question.

my fave would be a Sagaris though ..

When I took the Chimaera round Knockhill there was a bloke with a 4.2 Cerbera who was blisteringly quick. No one could get close.

It's possible that you were at Knockhill on the only dry day of the year, also the quality of driver could have an influence so perhaps I'm wrong but sweeping statements is what the internet is all about!
